Lead Teacher Job Description

Qualifications:

  • Member or regularly attends Heritage Christian Church.
  • Models Jesus Christ in his/her life.
  • Minimum of a Child Development Associate (CDA) required.
  • Experience teaching in a group setting.
  • Experience leading a team of teachers required.

The Lead Teacher is responsible for leading her teaching team in providing a Christian environment that allows children to develop to their full potential. 

MAJOR  FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES

Program

  • Ensure that the teaching team implements Heritage Christian Church values, philosophies and policies.
  • Ensure that teaching team interact and communicate respectfully with children, demonstrating an inclusive environment. 
  • Lead the development of weekly lesson plans.

Supervision

  • Ensure implementation of all teaching team duties as described in their job descriptions.
  • Ensure all classroom deadlines are met.

Leadership

  • Establish and maintain team building among teaching team by meeting regularly.
  • Develop effective teaching team communication systems.
  • Support and sustain positive morale of teaching team.  Solicit input from team and follow-up promptly.
  • Ensure that classroom daily responsibilities are completed and jobs shared.
  • Serve as a role model to teaching team.

Family Communication

  • Provide ongoing staff/family communication: daily communication, children’s progress reports, and family conferences.
  • Be available and accessible to families.
  • Create opportunities for family involvement.

Health, Safety, and Licensing

  • Adhere to state and local licensing requirements.
  • Attend all provided and required annual training.
  • Properly document and report all accidents and incidents.
  • Follow state regulations pertaining to incidents of abuse and neglect.
  • Assure a clean, safe, child-ready classroom at all times.

Professionalism

  • Positively project the center, goals, philosophies, and policies to families, staff, church and community.
  • Attend and participate in local AEYC meetings.
  • Practice confidentiality in all matters regarding staff and family information.
  • Continue on-going professional development.

Teamwork

  • Assume fair share of work.  Demonstrate initiative.
  • Foster an environment of respect and trust among the teaching team.

Physical Demands

  • Follow state, federal and center guidelines, including immunizations, employment physical and required health and safety training.
  • Lift, move, or hold children up to 40 pounds as needed.
  • Supervise and interact with children outdoors for extended periods in various weather conditions.
  • Demonstrate full range of motion to lift, reach, squat, climb, sit and otherwise fully participate in activities.
  • Respond immediately and appropriately to multiple or unexpected situations or emergencies.
  • Maintain mental and physical alertness and an appropriate level of energy to perform essential job requirements.
